According to some statistics, chocolate mousse is the favorite dessert of French people. I personally see it as a grand French classic dessert. Of course, lava cake and chocolate fondant are close competitors but according to the numbers, chocolate mousse is the golden dessert.

Why Do We Like Chocolate Mousse So Much?

Even though it is chocolate, chocolate mousses don’t feel as heavy as a fondant cake. They are are fresh and aerial and match perfectly with fresh fruits. Besides, chocolate possesses this incredible taste of sweetness and bitterness. It feels like a sweet velour that embrace your mouth. Am I speaking about it as a drug? yes, it is a possibility. Did you know that chocolate contains: enkephalin – which has a similar effect to opium?  Basically, it means that when you start eating it, it is hard to stop it. Is This Dark Chocolate Mousse A Weight Loss Friendly Dessert?

The answer is yes and no. I will not recommend to eat this chocolate mousse everyday but as a little sweet extra, once a week, it is compatible to any diet. Especially this Aerial Dark Chocolate Mousse since it contains only: 70% dark chocolate and eggs. On the contrary, most of the others recipes add cream or butter. I have seen recipes adding up to 30g of butter more, so approximatively 215Kcal of pure fat.

Why Don’t I Buy An Industrial One?

Just before we spoke about the variety of ingredients in a chocolate mousse. Industrial chocolate mousse are the leader of added ingredients. They contain an infinity of substances with as less chocolate and eggs as possible. Here is an exhaustive list of ingredients from a classical brand: milk, sugar, chocolate (4.4%), cream, chocolate powder, milk powder, emulsifier, animal gelatin, lecithin, locust bean gum… a lot of substances that are quite enigmatic. As you can see, they don’t even use eggs! but be careful, it is not vegan or vegetarian friendly since it has animal gelatin!

Be Healthy And Cook it Yourself

Easy and Fast you will have it ready in less than 15 minutes. However, you will be able to eat it just 4 hours after, time to the mousse to get solid. By making it yourself, you will appreciate the real taste of chocolate and eggs without any chemical substances.

Aerial Dark Chocolate Mousse Recipe

Dessert | French

Ingredients for 2 persons

  • 50 g Dark chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • a inch of salt


  1. Melt the chocolate in the microwave. To do so, put the chocolate in a bowl with a bit of water to top it (just a bit). Let it warm up for 15 seconds and then mix, if it is still too hard, add it 10-15 seconds more and repeat this process. Let it cool down.
  2. Add 1 egg yolk to the chocolate and beat it strong
  3. Beat the 2 egg whites with a inch of salt until hard.
  4. Add the egg white slowly to the preparation (don’t beat it!)
  5. Let it rest for at least 4 hours

Nutritional value: 150Kcal/portion with 9g fat, 15g carbs, 6g proteins and 40% Vit D RDA .
