The French Crepes Tradition
February the second is a special day in France, It is the Chandeleur, a.k.a the French crepe day. That’s why, almost every French family cooks crepe this day. The origin of this tradition comes from an old superstition. This superstition says that if you could flip your crepe while holding a gold coin in the other hand, you would prosper this year. On Fat Tuesday as well people likes to eat crepes or beignet (french donuts). Nowadays, we basically eat crepes any days, just for the pleasure of it.
Sweet Crepes or Salty Crepes
It all depends of your preferences. I personally like to eat both of them. However, I’d rather use buckwheat flour for salty crepes and all purpose flour for sweet crepes. Even though, all purpose flour works perfectly with salty crepes.
This French crepes recipe is made with all purpose flour and can be use with any type of crepes you’d like. This recipe needs no passive time, takes less than 10 minutes to prepare and taste amazingly good. Thus, if you fancy eating crepes, you know what you have to do ;).
French Crepes Recipe

- 250 g Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 250 ml Unsweetened Soy Milk
- 150 ml Lager Beer
- 100 ml Water
- 1 Pinch Salt
- Pour the flour in a Bowl with a pinch of salt.
- Dig a hole in the center and add the 2 eggs into it.
- Incorporate slowly the eggs
- Then, little by little, pour the soy milk, the water and the beer in the center as well.
- Whisk all the ingredients together until there is no more lumps.
- Now, your crepe dough is ready to use.
- Oil a little bit your pan with a cooking brush.
- Grab a ladle and full it up with some crepe dough.
- Pour the dough in the center and circle the pan until filled.
- Wait a bit until the dough unstick from the pan.
- Whence, flip your crepe to cook it on the other side
